Clinical Details
- Endoscopy heavy - needs to be currently performing scopes
- Office visits are infrequent (will not be a full day scheduled of office based appointments)
- Provides office-based general surgery services to new and established patients of all ages, including initial consultation for common general surgery concerns, performance of minor procedures, education and counseling of patients and families, ordering diagnostic tests, referral to related other specialties, and communication with PCP's
- Scenarios for office visits: patient the other provider wants them to be seen for wound check or if they see a patient in the ER or OR and want to see them while they are here
- Support Staff: Clinical support is provided by a medical assistant
- Most commonly diagnoses encountered are: Hernias (inguinal and umbilical), GERD and related symptoms, Rectal bleeding, Gallbladder disease, Colon polyps or screening for colon cancer, Hemorrhoids, Sebaceous cyst, Dysphagia, Breast Conditions, Diverticulitis, Skin lesions (including cancers)
- Provides operative (open and laparoscopic) and endoscopic procedures: Anal sphincterotomy, Anoscopy
- Appendectomies (primarily adults; occasionally age 10-18 years old, infrequent and on case-by-case basis for age 5-10 years old)
- Breast procedures, including ultrasound-guided biopsies, I&D of breast abscess, fine needle aspirations of cysts, lumpectomies, mastectomies, and sentinel lymph node biopsies
- Colonoscopies (screening, surveillance, and diagnostic), Cholecystectomies, Colon surgery, including partial colectomies, sigmoid resections, ostomy creation, ostomy take down, and other procedures for colon cancer, diverticular disease, volvulus, or other indications
- Debridement of burn, ulcer, or wound, EGD's (screening for high risk, surveillance, diagnostic, and therapeutic such as for UGI bleeding or esophageal food bolus)
- Exam under anesthesia, Foreign body removal
- Hemorrhoid procedures (hemorrhoidectomy, rubber band ligation), Hernia repairs, including inguinal, umbilical, ventral, and incisional, Other intra-abdominal procedures, including laparoscopic exploration, lysis of adhesions, Nissen fundoplication, repair of perforated duodenal ulcer, small bowel resection, etc., Placement of PEG and feeding tubes, Skin and soft tissue procedures, including excision of large lesions, I&D of large abscesses, pilonidal cystectomy, repair of large/complex laceration, split thickness skin graft, temporal artery biopsy
- Vascular procedures (limited), such as amputation of toe, Mediport placement or removal, and vein stripping (optional)
Requirements
- Minimum Criteria:
- At least 100 colonoscopies, including 20 polypectomies, in the past 12 months
- At least 25 esophagogastroduodenoscopies in the past 12 months
- Must be available to cover both date blocks
- Years of work experience: 2 year(s)
