Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our team and support a portfolio of veterinary and professional-service clients.
This is an in-office, part-time position for someone who is highly experienced in bookkeeping and comfortable independently managing client books from day-to-day transaction review through month-end close.This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position.
Schedule: Part-Time: 25 hours per week
Monday-Friday 12:30 PM-5:30 PM In-office position
About the Role
The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for assigned clients, with a strong focus on veterinary and healthcare-related businesses.
The ideal candidate has previously worked with bookkeeping for veterinary practices, medical practices, healthcare businesses, or similar professional-service organizations and understands the importance of accurate financial reporting, proper expense classification, reconciliations, and clean books for tax planning and tax preparation.

We are looking for someone who does more than simply categorize transactions.The right candidate understands how accurate bookkeeping affects tax preparation, tax planning, cash flow, payroll, business decisions, and the overall financial health of a business.
You should be comfortable identifying issues, asking questions, researching discrepancies, and taking ownership of the quality of the books you manage.
This position is ideal for an experienced bookkeeper who enjoys working with professional clients and wants to become familiar with the unique financial needs of veterinary and healthcare businesses.
Responsibilities
- Manage bookkeeping for multiple assigned clients
- Categorize and review income and expenses
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Review and maintain the chart of accounts
- Record and reconcile loan and financing activity
- Review payroll entries and payroll-related transactions
- Record owner contributions, distributions, and equity transactions
- Review merchant processing deposits and related fees
- Identify duplicate, missing, or incorrectly categorized transactions
- Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity when applicable
- Perform month-end bookkeeping and closing procedures
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports
- Review financial reports for unusual activity or inconsistencies
- Perform bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up projects
- Maintain supporting documentation for transactions
- Communicate with clients when additional information or documentation is needed
- Coordinate with tax and payroll team members when necessary
- Maintain organized and tax-ready books throughout the year
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional bookkeeping experience
- Previous bookkeeping experience in the veterinary, medical, healthcare, or related professional-services industry
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting fundamentals
- Experience managing multiple client files or entities
- Experience with monthly reconciliations and month-end close
- Ability to review financial statements and identify inconsistencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Comfortable communicating directly with clients regarding bookkeeping questions and missing documentation
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- QuickBooks Online experience
- Experience working in an accounting, tax, or bookkeeping firm
- Veterinary industry bookkeeping experience
- Experience with payroll accounting and reconciliations
- Experience cleaning up prior-period bookkeeping
- Familiarity with S Corporations, LLCs, partnerships, and small business accounting
- Experience preparing individual or business income tax returns is a strong plus, but is not required
- Bilingual - English-Spanish
Tax Experience:
Tax preparation experience is not required for this position. However, candidates with experience preparing individual or business income tax returns will be strongly considered, as there may be opportunities to assist the tax team during tax season
