Process Controls Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible for maintaining the process control systems at the
Laurel Plant, a chemical manufacturing facility in Gainesville, FL. This
position is responsible for plant programming activities, including but
not limited to, performing program changes, maintaining proper
documentation of changes, implementing software updates, training PPIs
and operators on control systems, and ensuring efficient use of control
systems and related equipment functionality. This position interfaces
with personnel in multiple other departments including but not limited
to Operations, Engineering, and Health/Safety/Environmental. Employees
must exercise principles of safety, environmental management, quality
management, and good housekeeping in all aspects of the job and must
inform supervisor of any unsafe practices or conditions.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide hands-on support for plant instrumentation and control
systems, including Siemens PCS7 and legacy platforms (Moore,
Eurotherm, Modbus, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and OT network issues
to ensure reliable and continuous plant operations.
- Lead and support control system upgrade projects, from planning and
design to installation and commissioning.
- Configure and maintain OT system architecture, including servers,
networks (Profinet/Profibus), remote I/O, and HMI graphics.
- Maintain and update engineering documentation such as P&IDs, network
hierarchies, loop diagrams, and general arrangement drawings.
- Train engineers and operators on control systems, functionality, and
safety protocols.
- Implement best practices for control strategies, smart
instrumentation, and firmware/software updates.
- Support Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and participate in change
management related to control systems.
- Manage control system related vendor service contracts and maintain
critical spare parts inventory.
- Ensure compliance with all site safety policies, participate in
safety audits, and promote a strong safety culture.
- Identify and implement projects to address control system component
obsolescence and reliability improvements.
- Participate in and drive the change management process as it relates
to the control systems.
- SAFETY Adhere to all plant safety policies and compliance
regulations. Actively participate in the safety process through
completing safety audits, participating in safety projects,
identifying Site Hazards, and contributing to safety improvements,
and being an attending member of a safety team. Complete annual
safety training as required.
- QUALITY Become familiar with, understand, and comply with
Quality Policy, Standard Operating Procedure(s) (SOPs), relevant ISO
9000 standards and Company Policies that are applicable to this
position.
- RESPONSIBLE CARE:
- Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care
Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to
ensure compliance to requirements.
- Understand the RC-14001 Significant Aspects of your job and help
ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative
impacts.
- Take actions and identify and communicate ideas to minimize
waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the plant environmental,
health, safety, security, and Responsible Care performance and
programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering
or computer science or related field; bachelors degree preferred
- Understanding of P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams
- Understanding of electrical elementary and loop diagrams
- 2+ years' experience programming DCS systems (Siemens PCS7, DeltaV,
etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot process control loops and
systems
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Availability to resolve urgent system problems outside of business
hours
- This position requires candidates to be eligible to work in the
United States without requiring sponsorship for a work visa (e.g.,
H-1B, TN, etc.)
- Strong organizational and analytical skills needed for problem
solving and trouble shooting
- Strong attention to detail balanced with ability to see the big
picture for overall strategy implementation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work under pressure,
and meet deadlines.
- High level of proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, and
PowerPoint.
- Strong managerial and interpersonal skills dealing with both hourly
and exempt associates
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Training and experience in supporting and programming of Siemens PCS
7 system
- Manufacturing experience
- Experience in the design and safety aspects of electrical systems

WORK ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION
This job operates in a manufacturing facility. This position is a
safety-sensitive position and regularly works around moving mechanical
parts and powered industrial vehicles. Noise level is generally loud.
Temperatures can be more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity level can
be more than 98% for 100% of day.
SHIFT/WORK HOURS
Shift schedule will depend on open positions at time of hire and will be
communicated with new hire paperwork. Weekends and holidays are
scheduled depending on business demands.
- Monday through Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM typically. After hours and
weekend work may also be required.
