A primary focus of this role involves leading work under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) "Co-locating on Community-based Assets" initiative. You will evaluate the residential redevelopment potential of community-licensed lands while balancing park functionality, equity, and long-term community needs. Working with cross-functional project teams and external consultants, you will guide site reviews and ensure project milestones are successfully met. This dynamic position bridges open space planning with housing strategy, helping shape the future of Edmonton's urban landscape.What will you do?Oversee and coordinate land-use planning and administrative workflows to evaluate potential residential redevelopment sitesServe as a key lead in managing external consulting teams and internal project teams across policy, housing, open space, architecture, and engineeringConduct technical land-use analyses at the intersection of open spaces, community assets, and residential infillReview proposals against the Municipal Government Act, Zoning Bylaw, City Plan, and relevant structure plansFacilitate targeted engagement with groups such as the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), housing providers, and internal collaboratorsPrepare clear technical summaries, reports, and briefings for leadership, working groups, and City CouncilProvide expert input on open space planning, active transportation, and environmental considerations for corporate policies and plansQualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Environmental Studies, or a related fieldMinimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in land-use planning, policy development, engagement, and project managementAssets:A Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or a related fieldEligibility for or current membership in the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI)Skills required for success:In-depth knowledge of urban, environmental, and open space planning principles and relevant municipal legislationStrong project management, research, and time management skills with the ability to meet compressed project deadlinesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to present complex technical information clearlyDemonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across departments, external partners, and community groupsAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ()Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment:Applicants may be testedWork Environment:Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.
