We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will support daily metallurgical testing and laboratory operations involving steel and other metallic materials. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a manufacturing environment, follows safety procedures, and is eager to develop technical laboratory skills through on-the-job training.


As a member of our team, you will work closely with the Metallurgical Lab Specialist to prepare, test, track, and analyze material samples while ensuring accuracy, quality, and safety standards are maintained.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily metallurgical laboratory operations and testing activities.
  • Prepare steel and metal samples using oxy-fuel cutting torches and other laboratory equipment.
  • Record, verify, and accurately transcribe sample identification and testing information.
  • Label, organize, and track samples throughout the testing process.
  • Cut, grind, sand, and polish samples for metallurgical analysis.
  • Prepare sample surfaces for microscopic and chemical testing.
  • Operate, clean, and perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Learn to operate laboratory testing instruments, including spectrometers and related analytical equipment.
  • Follow all laboratory safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Identify and report safety concerns or hazards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and team meetings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory workspace.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to accurately read, record, and document measurements.
  • Familiarity with measuring tools such as tape measures and micrometers.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work safely in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing, steel, metals, or industrial environment.
  • Previous laboratory experience (2+ years preferred).
  • Experience operating laboratory testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with spectrometers, metallurgical testing, or materials analysis.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand or power tools.


Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and metallurgical laboratory setting.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and handling steel samples.
  • Exposure to industrial equipment, heat, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.
