Position Overview

Diversified Tooling Innovations is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead CNC Set Up Operator to guide our CNC team in producing high precision components that meet the highest quality standards. This role combines hands on technical expertise ensuring efficient machine setups, process consistency, and team development in a fast paced, detail oriented manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled machinist capable of optimizing setups, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across our machining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily CNC setup operations across multiple machines and operators.
• Perform complex setups and ensure process stability for new and repeat jobs using instruction sheets, process sheets, set up charts, shop orders, part drawings, and specifications.
• Conduct first piece inspections for setup approval and ensure all subsequent production follows established gauge and quality control plans.
• Verify that parts meet required tolerances for squareness, concentricity, parallelism, and surface finish.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and fixturing issues, providing guidance and corrective action recommendations to the team.
• Maintain machine utilization and uptime by organizing tools, materials, and setups efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with Lean Manufacturing and 5S practices, promoting a culture of safety, cleanliness, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of CNC machining and setup experience, with proven ability to handle complex setups independently.
• Strong proficiency with CNC Lathes (Mazak, Mori Seiki, Daewoo, Fuji) and horizontal/vertical machining centers.
• Demonstrated experience with G code programming and parameter adjustment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering and part drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Proficient in metric measuring systems and precision inspection tools; CMM experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving skills.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement practices.
