RN or LPN Acute Care or ER / ICU 6 pm- 6 am with shift diff.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The LPN/RN positions are responsible for the nursing care of patients in their assigned area. These positions can be FT, PT or PRN depending on the employee's availability.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Assessment of physical and mental status. Plans, supervises, and evaluates the care of all patients in their department. Uses good judgment, performs basic emergency procedures as required, and calls for assistance as needed (using STAT notification as required).

Recognizes and interprets signs, symptoms, and history. Records and reports all pertinent information accurately and neatly. Completes forms, does charting and obtains all information, and signatures required.

Knowledge of nursing principles and procedures with special knowledge such as emergency patient, monitoring equipment, emergency medications, inhalation therapy, intravenous therapy, EKG, sterile technique, and CPR if hired for that department.

Instructs, guides, and assists other nursing personnel in rendering care to the patients.

Plans, implements, and documents patient and family teaching (physical and psychological). Gives written instructions.

Participates in in-service education and PI programs and serves on designated committees as needed. Attends some position relation in-services and all mandatory in-services (such as: fire, safety, CPR, and infection control).

Interprets, transcribes, and carries out physician orders.

Initiates incident reports of an accident. Reports all necessary situations to supervisor.

Maintains quiet, clean, and safe physical surroundings.

Knowledge of community resources available for continuation of nursing care to meet patient and family needs.

RNs are responsible for checking and evaluating performance of the LPN's and Aides working in the department each shift. Takes appropriate corrective action when viewing behavior problems in above personnel. Reports to Supervisor.

Knowledge of hospital and emergency department policies and procedures. Ability to interpret these policies and procedures to other nursing personnel, physicians, and community.

Promotes line of communication between self, department personnel, and other hospital and nursing personnel.

Understands the legal implication of law regarding patient rights.

Aware of legal situations which are to be reported to the authorities and reports to coroner or police as needed and directed by the physician. Report all deaths to KODA.

Knowledge of infection control policies and reports problems to Supervisor and Infection Control Staff.

Serves as a role model for all nursing personnel by setting an example of high standards in dress, conduct, attitude, and performance.

Understands staffing needs of the department and is flexible and cooperative in meeting these needs.

Ability to meet the public and handle various situations which could arise in an emergency situation.

Notifies the physician on call and has the necessary information before making the call.

Assists the physician in the care of the patient.

Aware of supplies needed and replenishes supplies as required.

Administration of medication and recording it. Special knowledge and skill in administration of medication to the patient.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Must have a positive attitude both personally and professionally. Customer Service and patient care will be of highest priority.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must hold an active Kentucky Nursing License

Must have at least 1 year experience as a nurse (Preferred)

Must have CPR certification

Must take ACLS & PALS class at the next offered class
