Our client is seeking a hands-on machinist with a strong engineering mindset. This individual will work closely with engineering every day and must be able to connect engineering requirements with practical machining, tooling, fixture, setup, and production needs.

The position will primarily operate CNC lathes, although candidates with strong CNC mill experience may also be considered. The ideal candidate understands the complete machining process, from reviewing prints and GD&T through setup, programming fundamentals, offsets, tooling, part location, and final machining.

Core Requirements

• Strong CNC machining experience, preferably on lathes; CNC mill experience may also be considered
• Engineering aptitude and the ability to interface effectively with engineers
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
• Working knowledge of GD&T
• Ability to understand and visualize machining sequences and process steps
• Understanding of fixture and tooling requirements
• Hands-on CNC setup experience, including machine zeroing, tool setup, locating parts, and making offsets
• Working knowledge of G-code
• Experience with three-axis CNC equipment; four-axis exposure is valuable

Equipment and Controls

• Fanuc controls
• Doosan CNC machines
• Primarily CNC lathes
• Three-axis machines, with some four-axis capability

Qualifications:

Preferred Experience

• Mastercam experience
• Strong combination of machining knowledge and engineering understanding
• Experience helping translate engineering requirements into practical machining processes
• CNC lathe experience is preferred over mill-only experience

Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will be more than a machine operator. They will understand why a part is machined a certain way, recognize tooling and fixture needs, communicate intelligently with engineering, and independently complete CNC setup and machining activities.

Not a Fit

• EDM-only machinists
• Operators without setup, blueprint, GD&T, offset, tooling, or G-code knowledge
• Candidates who lack the engineering aptitude needed to work closely with the engineering team
