ELECTRICAL / MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER

Location: San Diego, CA 92121
Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 4:00 AM-2:30 PM
Employment Type: Contract

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, the Electrical/Mechanical Assembler performs electrical and/or mechanical assembly work supporting a variety of component configurations and end-users. Work may be performed in a cleanroom manufacturing environment or a standard manufacturing environment depending on business and staffing needs. Employees may also rotate between products as directed by business requirements.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in production builds as directed by the supervisor to support the manufacturing schedule.

• Follow SOPs, Work Instructions, and verbal instructions to complete assigned work.

• Communicate and coordinate work instructions with fellow employees as needed.

• Receive training and perform electrical and/or mechanical assembly and rework activities.

• Examine components and assemblies and identify potential defects or quality issues.

• Notify the supervisor of high component usage or low stocking levels of materials.

• Provide feedback to supervisors and engineering regarding manufacturability issues.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Experience using small-scale electromechanical assembly tools such as:

  • Torque wrenches

  • Screwdrivers

  • Tweezers

  • UV light sources

  • Adhesive dispensers

• Ability to work in a cleanroom manufacturing environment.

• Ability to follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

• Ability to clearly communicate and comprehend written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow detailed instructions, and multitask.

Education

• High School Diploma required.

• Some post-high-school technical training preferred.

Experience

• More than 1 year of experience in instrumentation, biomedical, medical device, consumer electronics, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.

• Assembly experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Microscope or magnification work

  • Plastic components, adhesives, and simple fixturing

  • Manual, semi-automatic, or automated assembly equipment

  • Cleanroom manufacturing practices

• Experience working in an ISO/GMP-regulated environment preferred.

SCOPE OF WORK

• Learn job-specific skills, company policies, and procedures to complete routine assignments.

• Perform routine tasks requiring limited judgment.

• Follow detailed instructions and work under close supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle tools and components, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk, and hear.

The position requires repetitive hand motions and close attention to small components, tools, and controls. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

• May occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

• Must wear personal protective equipment as required.

• Must be able to work the assigned schedule and may be required to work additional shifts based on business needs.
