Job Title: Marine Electrician

Job Description

This role focuses on performing complex electrical work in a marine shipyard environment, including reading and interpreting technical documentation, troubleshooting electrical systems, and supporting cable installation on vessels. You will apply strong electrical theory knowledge to maintain and refurbish shipboard electrical systems while ensuring safe and reliable operations.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret work specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics to plan and execute tasks accurately.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems on shipboard electrical equipment and systems using meters and diagnostic tools.
  • Repair and refurbish electrical lighting systems, communications systems, and other shipboard systems that operate on electrical power.
  • Run cabling into ships, including working cableways, multi-cable transits (MCTs), and cable routing, ensuring proper installation and organization.
  • Write clear and accurate reports documenting work performed, issues identified, and corrective actions taken.
  • Order required materials and components to support ongoing electrical projects and maintenance activities.
  • Identify and promptly report any abnormal safety or mechanical conditions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow established shipyard procedures, safety guidelines, and technical standards while performing all electrical tasks.
  • Collaborate with other trades and team members in the shipyard to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and strong work ethic to support long-term project needs and continued employment.
  • Eligibility to obtain DBIDS access for shipyard entry.

Work Environment

This position is based in a shipyard environment, including locations such as Portsmouth Marine Terminal, Little Creek, and NOB, with work on major vessels such as the Ford-class ships. You will work in an industrial marine setting that involves ships, piers, and yard facilities, often requiring movement through confined spaces, ladders, and uneven surfaces. The role involves hands-on work with electrical systems, cabling, and equipment in active shipyard conditions, where safety procedures and access requirements such as DBIDS and, where applicable, TWIC are strictly followed. Work is full-time, and you can expect a structured environment with clear expectations around attendance, safety compliance, and adherence to technical standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
