Education:
Graduate theological education from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or education completed through a Catholic formation program that adheres to the standards of the National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States.
Completion of 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units from one of the following accredited providers: Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) ,Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (CPEi),College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP).
Experience: 3 months of healthcare chaplaincy experience (can count CPE education).

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Compassionate, skilled listener able to offer presence and emotional support in complex and sensitive situations.
- Effective collaborator with chaplains, caregivers, and visiting clergy.
- Awareness of group dynamics when identifying and supporting appropriate care recipients within groups.
- Familiarity with healthcare systems in responding effectively to trauma, crisis, and complex patient needs.
- Flexibility, professionalism, and dependability in meeting departmental expectations and maintaining boundaries.
- Able to identify and meet spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially for electronic medical record documentation and interdisciplinary communication.
- Curiosity and learner mindset reflected in regular engagement with the reflection-action-reflection model.
- Theological knowledge that supports interfaith and ecumenical engagement.
- Exhibits a high level of flexibility, reliability, and readiness to respond to unplanned or urgent spiritual care needs.
